Treating Common Eye Conditions in Reno

What’s Causing Your Blurry Vision?

If your vision feels blurry or inconsistent, there’s usually a reason behind it. Many common vision problems are caused by disruptions in how light enters the eye, and even small changes can affect how clearly and comfortably you see.

We take the time to understand what you’re experiencing, then use testing to identify the cause. Whether it’s a refractive error like nearsightedness or another condition affecting your eyes, our goal is to provide clear answers and guide you to the right solution.

Most vision problems come down to how your eyes focus light

What Are Refractive Errors?

Refractive errors are the most common cause of blurry vision. They occur when light does not focus properly on the retina, which is the part of your eye responsible for sending visual information to your brain. Even small changes in how light enters the eye can affect how clearly and comfortably you see.

These eye conditions are not always obvious, and symptoms can vary depending on the type and severity. With the right testing, we can measure exactly how your eyes are focusing and determine the best way to correct your vision.

Nearsightedness

Nearsightedness means you can see clearly up close, but distant objects appear blurry. This happens when light focuses in front of the retina instead of directly on it. Also called myopia, it is common in children and adults.

Farsightedness

Farsightedness occurs when light focuses behind the retina. This can make it difficult to see objects up close. Many people with mild farsightedness may not notice symptoms right away, but it can lead to eye strain, fatigue, or headaches.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a very common eye condition caused by an irregularly shaped cornea or lens. Instead of being perfectly round, the eye's surface is more oval, which causes light to focus unevenly. This can result in blurred or distorted vision at all distances. Astigmatism often occurs alongside nearsightedness or farsightedness.

Symptoms of Refractive Errors

Refractive errors can affect your vision in different ways, and symptoms may develop gradually over time. If you’re experiencing any of the following, it may be time for an eye exam:

  • Blurry or inconsistent vision
  • Eye strain or fatigue
  • Frequent headaches
  • Squinting to see more clearly
  • Difficulty seeing at night

While refractive errors are a common cause of blurred vision, they are not the only factor that can affect how your eyes feel and function. In some cases, underlying conditions can contribute to changes in vision, discomfort, or difficulty focusing.
